S. Cristina is lovingly situated in the centre of Val Gardena at an altitude of 1,428 metres – about 30 kilometres east of Bolzano. Among winter sports enthusiasts and active holidaymakers, the village is known as a holiday resort with perfect conditions for skiing and snowboarding. Despite many modern accommodations, 2,965 guest beds and 416,000 overnight stays per year, the village of S. Cristina with its 2,000 inhabitants has still preserved its originality in parts. Families, in particular, appreciate the tranquillity and childcare facilities in the small ski resort.
The residents of S. Cristina feel they belong to the Ladin culture and also speak Ladin in everyday life. The pride of belonging to Ladin is also reflected in the traditional clothing of Val Gardena, the folk songs and the culture of woodcarving. But don't worry: German and Italian are also spoken in the taverns, restaurants and shops in the village.
