With more than 145 km of well-maintained trails, an ideal infrastructure with ski hire, lifts and huts, and the uniquely beautiful surroundings of the Dolomites, which have been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Val Gardena is the ideal destination for cross-country skiing fans. Monte Pana in S. Cristina (trails: 25 km), the Alpe di Siusi (trails: 91 km), which is easily accessible from Ortisei, and the Vallunga near Selva (trails: 29 km) offer trails of all levels of difficulty. Val Gardena is one of the 15 largest and one of the five best-rated cross-country skiing areas in Italy. Whether sporty and challenging or relaxed and meditative – find your pace and enjoy the clear mountain air and views.

Cross-country skiing in Selva

If you spend your winter holiday in Selva or the surrounding area, cross-country skiing in the Vallunga should be on your agenda. In the cross-country skiing centre of Vallunga, there are trails from green to black and from one to ten kilometres in length. The green and blue trails are ideal for beginners while the red trail is perfect for training. Are you in the mood for an extensive tour? Then ski the black-marked, ten-kilometre loop. The Ciampac Hut, the La Ciajota Hut and the Hotel Val are excellent places to stop for a bite to eat.

The Vallunga is located to the northeast of Selva in the Puez-Geisler Nature Park. It only takes about 15-20 minutes to walk from the parish church in the centre of Selva to this wonderful cross-country skiing area. DSV Nordic Active Park in Vallunga

The DSV Nordic Activ Park is a prime attraction all year round for sports enthusiasts who love the Nordic disciplines. Where Nordic walking is the main focus in summer, there is a wonderful area for cross-country skiing and snowshoe hiking in winter.

Location, arrival and parking

The Vallunga lies to the northeast of Selva and can easily be reached on foot from the village. If you are arriving by car, it is recommended that you drive to the Vallunga car park. The car park is next to the La Ciajota Hut. From here you can set off directly on your cross-country skis and enjoy the wonderful landscape.

In Santa Cristina cross-country skiing means 25 km of perfectly groomed trails and 5 routes of different levels of difficulty in the Monte Pana cross-country skiing centre. Challenging climbs and fast descents characterise this exceptional cross-country skiing area. Both beginners and experienced cross-country skiers have the opportunity to improve their technique here.

The cross-country skiing centre is open daily during the season from 9 am to 4.30 pm You can find out about the current condition of the various trails below. Take part in a cross-country course at the S. Cristina Ski School or book a private cross-country instructor to help you perfect your skills. You can easily hire the equipment for your cross-country skiing day here. You can also stop for refreshments at the Hotel Cendevaves and the Sporthotel Monte Pana.

Cross-country skiing under the full moon

On two full moon evenings per season, the cross-country skiing trails of the Monte Pana cross-country centre are open to you after dark, free of charge! Don't miss the adventure of cross-country skiing in the moonlight on the 1,636-metre-high Monte Pana.

Location, arrival and parking

The easiest way to reach the Monte Pana cross-country centre is by chairlift, which takes you directly from S. Cristina to the cross-country paradise. There is a free car park next to the bottom station of the chairlift. Would you like to reach Monte Pana by car? Next to the cross-country centre – at Hotel Cendevaves and Hotel Monte Pana – you can park your car for a fee. Note: During the season, the limited number of available parking spaces are quickly occupied.

Cross-country skiing: Alpe di Siusi

The Alpe di Siusi is not only the largest high alpine pasture in Europe, but without doubt also one of the most beautiful alpine pastures in the region. A total of 80 km of trails, a sunny altitude between 1,800 and 2,200 metres and cosy huts that invite you to take a break make the Alpe di Siusi a paradise for cross-country skiing fans. During your cross-country tour, you can expect fantastic views of the Sassolungo, Sassopiatto and Sciliar, which seem so close you could reach out and touch them.

All cross-country trails in the Compaccio, Saltria and Passo Pinei cross-country skiing areas are double or quadruple-tracked and are freshly groomed every night. The excellent signposting is also a great source of comfort for cross-country skiers. From Val Gardena, you can reach this winter sports haven, which is also popular with families, by taking the Alpe di Siusi cable car in Ortisei. Choose the trail that suits your sporting level, challenge yourself or enjoy the Dolomite panorama at a leisurely pace. Ski hire is available at the modern NordicSki Centre at Compaccio, directly at the mountain station of the Alpe di Siusi cable car.

Location, arrival and parking

If you stay overnight in S. Cristina, you can reach the tracks of the Alpe di Siusi by taking the connecting track from Monte Pana. From Ortisei, take the Alpe di Siusi cable car. The Alpe di Siusi nature reserve may only be accessed by car to a limited extent. Parking is available in the parking garage at the valley station of the Alpe di Siusi cable car.

Dolomiti NordicSki is the largest cross-country skiing network in Europe, offering almost endless cross-country skiing opportunities with around 1,000 km of trails. Nine cross-country skiing areas in the heart of the UNESCO-protected Dolomites have joined forces to form Dolomiti NordicSki and offer you access to all connected cross-country skiing areas after purchasing a single ski pass. The perfectly prepared trails are open from December and are suitable for cross-country skiers of all ages. Beginners and experienced cross-country skiing fans alike will get their money's worth.
