Sledging in Val Gardena

The villages of Selva, Santa Cristina and Ortisei are the ideal starting points for fun winter days on the toboggan. From here you can reach the most beautiful toboggan slopes of the ski area, such as the Rasciesa toboggan run, and use the many lifts to take you to the most popular destinations for sledgers of all ages. You need a ski pass to use the Rasciesa cable car and the other cable cars in the ski area. You can easily hire your toboggan for speedy descents, day tours or night tobogganing from the local ski hire shops.

Rasciesa toboggan run

The 4,9-kilometre-long and scenic Rasciesa toboggan run is a highlight for all tobogganing fans. The sledging fun for the whole family starts at the mountain station of the Rasciesa funicular in Ortisei. The toboggan run leads to the middle station, where you can take the cable car back to the top and repeat the run. A toboggan hire shop is located at the valley station of the cable car. Toboggans can be hired and returned at the valley station of the funicular.

Alternative: Rasciesa Hut

The alternative tour via the Rasciesa Hut promises variety and winter romance. From the top station of the cable car, you can reach the hut on foot in a westerly direction in about 30 minutes. On this beautiful walk through the Puez-Odle Nature Park, you only have to overcome a small difference in altitude at the beginning. Once you reach the hut, you can take a leisurely rest or hike with your toboggan to the summit cross. An access track leads from the Rasciesa Hut to the popular toboggan run.

Alternative: Baita Cason

If you head north-east from the top station of the Rasciesa cable car, you can reach the Baita Cason alpine hut in about 10 minutes by toboggan. It is best to find out before your hike whether the hut is open in case you would like to grab a drink or a bite to eat.

Night tobogganing on the Alpe di Siusi

A tobogganing tour in the moonlight is an unforgettable experience, especially if you are on the Alpe di Siusi. Get a taxi to the Alpe di Siusi and be picked up by snowmobile. After dinner at the Molignon hut, you can toboggan back to the Tirler Alm under the clear starry sky.

Tobogganing safety

Tobogganing on the slopes is performed at your own risk. For safe tobogganing it is important that you use the correct equipment and follow the advice below:

  • Tobogganing is prohibited on the ski slopes. The ascent to the toboggan run is via hiking trails or by mountain railway, never via ski slopes or toboggan runs.
  • On the toboggan run, always show consideration for other sledgers. If you witness an accident, administer first aid and inform the national emergency call centre if necessary.
  • Keep at least 8 metres distance from the sledger in front of you and adjust your speed to the current snow and visibility conditions. Be especially careful at intersections.
  • Only overtake in places that you can see well and never stop without necessity in narrow and unclear places. Clear the toboggan run quickly after a fall.
  • Never toboggan lying on your stomach and with your head in front. Wear a ski helmet and sturdy shoes that allow you to move easily in the snow. Pay attention to signs.
