Description

The exhibition Spuren (Traces) offers an insight into the work of Laurenz Stockner and his long-standing exploration of material, craftsmanship, and transformation. At its heart is the archetypal form of the vessel, which the artist continuously develops and reinterprets through copper, steel, and tin.

In particular, the copper from the Ahrntal Valley, extracted and worked by the artist himself, brings together origin, craftsmanship, and time. The traces left by the working process reveal the history and transformation of the material. Between heaviness and lightness, solidity and flexibility, Stockner creates sculptures that free familiar forms from their original function and invite us to focus on the material itself.

Laurenz Stockner (*1971 in St. Andrä, Brixen) combines traditional craftsmanship with a contemporary formal language in his artistic practice. Influenced from an early age by the work of the village blacksmith, he initially trained as a blacksmith before specialising in goldsmithing in Florence. Since 2003, he has worked in his own studio and workshop in St. Andrä. His works have been exhibited internationally and have received numerous awards, including the Bayerischer Staatspreis and the Grassipreis. In 2018, he was a finalist for the prestigious LOEWE Craft Prize. His works are represented in international art collections.

Position

Coming from the south, it is best to exit the Brenner motorway (A 22) at the Bolzano Nord exit and continue along state road 12 to Ponte Gardena, where you turn right onto the bridge and tunnel leading to Val Gardena. After 20 kilometres you reach Selva di Val Gardena. Continue along the main road and turn left at the Hotel Oswald. Here you have two possibilities; simply park your car in the public car park or continue for another 50 metres turning right to the Istitut Ladin and library. You can park your car with a parking disc for 30 minutes. Just below the square is the "Tublà da Nives", which can be reached right up to the entrance - for loading and unloading purposes - even by car.
