MTB tour around the Sella Group

The Sella Group is located in the middle of the UNESCO World Heritage Dolomites and is a paradise for mountain bikers. On the Sellaronda MTB Tour, you will cycle around the Sella Group on narrow trails, beautiful forest roads and gravel paths. Along the way, you'll use several lifts in which you can comfortably take your mountain bike with you. The tour can be ridden in two directions: clockwise and counter-clockwise. Due to its technical demands, you should have adequate riding skills, experience and endurance for the tour even if you use an e-bike.

The Sellaronda can be started from one of the four valleys of Alta Badia, Arraba, Val di Fassa or Val Gardena, all of which are part of the Dolomiti Supersummer network, which allows you to use all lifts with a single ticket. In addition to individual tours, the circuit can also be ridden with a personal guide for a first-class experience of its own! E-bikes make the Sellaronda mountain bike tour much easier and make it possible for some amateur mountain bikers to master a route of this length and altitude with or without the help of the lifts. However, it is still important that you possess technical skills if you venture onto the Sellaronda on an e-bike. After all, narrow single trails and gravel roads present some challenges. Along the route, you will find numerous e-bike charging stations. If you don't have your own e-bike, you can easily rent one of the latest models at one of the bike rentals near the Sellaronda.

Lift facilities: Lift tickets

The Dolomites are also a mountain bikers' paradise because of the bike-friendly lifts. Whether you want to save metres in altitude, reach a more distant destination or enjoy a descent several times in a row – find out about current opening times and the possibility of bike transport. To use the lifts of the Sellaronda you need the Dolomiti Supersummer Card, which is also available as an inexpensive multi-day ticket. For the lifts in Val Gardena, the Gardena Card is sufficient, but bike transport is subject to an additional fee.

Am I able to ride the Sellaronda MTB Tour?

If you ride the Sellaronda clockwise, you will have relatively few metres of ascent. Since the loop has a few single trails, you need at least average riding skills. Furthermore, you should have the necessary stamina for this tour, which takes five to nine hours. The Sellaronda counter-clockwise route is ideal for experienced mountain bikers or hobby mountain bikers who are riding an e-bike. The total ascent here is just over 1,000 metres.

How long does the MTB tour around the Sella Group take?

Depending on your bike and your skills, you should plan at least five hours and a maximum of nine hours for the Sellaronda in both directions with an hour's lunch break already factored in.
