Introduction

Families, in particular, will enjoy themselves here for an hour or two, finding countless opportunities to play, explore and picnic against a picturesque natural backdrop. If you want to spend an unforgettable day in the Dolomites with your children, this is the place to do it. The trail is also ideal for smaller children.

Important: The circular trail can also be easily walked with a pram.

Drive

Monte Pana is easy to reach via the SS 242 from the direction of Bressanone. Via Ortisei, the road leads to S. Cristina in Val Gardena. From here, follow the signs to Monte Pana to the top station of the chairlift.

The PanaRaida adventure trail can also be easily reached by public transport. The bus stops directly at the valley station of the Monte Pana lift, which takes visitors to Monte Pana in an environmentally friendly and stress-free way. The entrance to the circular trail is at the valley station of Mont Sëura chairlift, which is a few minutes walk away.

Description

The PanaRaida adventure trail can be hiked clockwise or counterclockwise. Depending on children's ages and fitness levels, families should plan for around one to two hours of pure walking time. However, since the adventure stations encourage extensive play, most visitors spend considerably more time here.

The photo station

The adventure trail starts with a photo station at the entrance, which invites you to take souvenir photos with wooden figures made by artists from Val Gardena. With the Sassolungo in the background, you can take wonderful pictures for the family album.

The wooden horse-drawn carriage

Once you arrive at the second station of the trail, the children will dash off to climb the two horses and their cart, each carved out of pine wood. The spring-loaded carts are ideal for balancing, swinging and having fun. A must for horse lovers!

Natural World Heritage cinema

Welcome to the Dolomites Cinema, where visitors will find neither popcorn nor a screen, but rather a fantastic view. Here, children and adults can gaze through the telescope at the Puez-Odle Nature Park, Sassolungo and Sassopiatto and numerous other surrounding Dolomite peaks. A carved summit landscape invites visitors to compare art and nature. Animal lovers will also be delighted by the friendly cows and horses that graze here – they're happy to meet the excited children.

The water playground

This lovingly designed water playground would be worth a family outing on its own. Waterways, a wooden water wheel and a fountain invite you to splash and play. It is well worth taking a small towel and possibly a change of clothes.

While the little ones experiment with the cool mountain water, the adults can make themselves comfortable on the benches in the picnic area and enjoy a cup of coffee they brought themselves with a wonderful view of the Sassolungo.

The mysterious labyrinth

Next is the log maze. But don't worry: no visitor has ever gotten lost here forever. The path leads into the centre of the mysterious labyrinth and, of course, out again. Children love to master this challenge more than once in a row.

The giant forest swing

A beautifully designed tree swing offers space for two to four big or small swing lovers at the same time, who can make themselves comfortable on the rope hanging under a magnificent spruce.

Climbing and hiding

Just around the corner, three treehouses are waiting to be climbed by both children and adults. Fancy a game of catch or hide and seek? The treehouses are connected by rope bridges and are perfect for lively play.

Mini cable car with gondola

A small wooden gondola and a cable that leads them from one tree to another are the highlights of this wonderful adventure station. If you venture into the wooden gondola and pull on the rope chain, you can ride the mini cable car to the next tree in comfort.

Art gallery

Art lovers young and old will get their money's worth in the gallery - an art tunnel designed by students of the art high school in Ortisei. Here, besides animals and plants of the mountain world, all kinds of colourful mythical creatures are depicted. Who knows what real elves look like and where the chamois is hiding?

The Biotope

The last stop is a water biotope with a Kneipp facility. Why not treat your feet and legs to a healthy refresher after the hike? Those who prefer to rest in the sun can relax on one of the comfortable wooden loungers on the lawn. One or two fish are also hiding in the small lake. Who will find them first?

Insider-Tips

There are no refreshment stops on the circular route, but hungry families will find plenty of opportunities to refuel with ice cream or a hearty meal before or after. For example, the restaurant of the Monte Pana Sports Hotel welcomes its guests to the outdoor terrace in good weather. The Cendevaves Restaurant is also worth a visit. The sun terrace is a particularly good place to dine with a view of the Sassolungo.

Speaking of outdoor dining: there are numerous picnic areas on the trail itself. So why not pack something to drink and a few sandwiches and eat in the middle of nature?

Another special highlight is the PanaRaida geocache. The first hiding place is at the water playground (coordinates: N 46° 32.890 E 011° 43.259). A total of three hiding places can be found on the adventure trail. Those who stop by the tourist office in S. Cristina after the hike and provide the three answers will even be rewarded with a surprise.

Rules of conduct

To ensure that families continue to enjoy the hiking trail, all visitors are asked to adhere to a few important conservation rules:

  • Please stay on the marked trails and do not cross any boundaries.
  • Dogs should please be kept on a lead at all times. Dog waste disposal bags and bins are available at various stations.
  • Even though the baby calves look cute, we urge you not to pet the animals.
