Introduction

If you are spending a mountain bike holiday in the Dolomites, you should definitely plan a day for the Sellaronda. On our overview page, you will find everything you need to know about the Sellaronda MTB tour. The legendary Sellaronda offers you everything you would expect from a tour in the mountains with beautiful single trails, gravel paths and unique panoramic views.

For the Sellaronda MTB tour in a clockwise direction (orange signposting), you should plan around five to nine hours. For the trails on the Sellaronda, you should have at least an intermediate level of riding ability. However, thanks to the mountain railways where you can take your bike with you, you only have to cycle uphill for a short time in this direction.

Directions

The tour can be started from all four Dolomite valleys that lie along the Sellaronda: Alta Badia, Val di Fassa, Arabba and Val Gardena. We recommend Selva as the starting point and destination. From Germany, you will arrive in South Tyrol via the Passo del Brennero. On the Brenner motorway, take the Chiusa/Gröden exit and follow the signs to Val Gardena for about half an hour until you reach Selva. There are various parking facilities here.

By the way, you don't have to come by car. Take the train to Bolzano, Bressanone or Chiusa. From here you can continue by bus. If you don't bring your own mountain bike, you can rent a new MTB or an e-mountain bike on-site.

Description

Sellaronda clockwise MTB tour: Here you will find all the information about your tour.

Start: Selva

Your tour starts in Selva, where you cycle to the Dantercepies cable car, which takes you up to the mountain station. If you haven't had breakfast yet or feel like enjoying the first rays of sunshine with espresso, you can fortify yourself here in the mountain station. Continue on the gravel road to the Gardena Pass, where the first descent of the day awaits you: a wonderful single trail that descends 300 metres in altitude and offers a few challenges. The next descent takes you to Corvara and lets you pass the Val Mezdì, from which the Piz Boé towers overhead.

From Corvara to Arabba

In Corvara, take the second cable car of the day and ride the gondola to Col Alto. Before continuing, you should definitely take a moment to enjoy the outstanding view that is offered to you here. The descent is short before the Braia Fraida chairlift takes you up towards the Bioch Hut. Over trails and beautiful meadows, it goes over the Bioch Hut to Pralongià.

Several huts here invite you to take a restful break. The Fle Trail flows from just below the Pralongià to the La Marmotta Hut and then on to the Passo Campolongo. Here it continues with the Bec de Roces chairlift: an exciting enduro trail follows that requires a great deal of technical skill from bikers. The final section to Arabba is over a gravel road.

From Arabba to the Città dei Sassi

From Arabba, take the gondola to Porta Vescovo, which lies opposite the legendary Marmolada. With a perfect view of the Sella Group, you can enjoy the descent, partly on gravel and partly on trails, to the Fodom cable car. This transports bikers and their bikes up to the Passo Pordoi. Once here, another varied descent follows via the "Infinity" Trail to Canazei. Fortunately, from Canazei and finally Campitello, the descent is quite a bit more relaxed.

The Campitello-Col Rodella gondola takes you 1,000 metres up to Col Rodella. In addition to the unique view of the Sassolungo, the Icarus flow trail awaits you here. The route continues over gravel to the Passo Sella and from there through the legendary Città dei Sassi.

From the Sella Pass back to Selva

From the highest point of the Città dei Sassi, two fun flow trails wind one after the other to Plan de Gralba above Selva: the Paravis Trail and the Family Line. From Plan de Gralba, the ski slope leads back to Selva.

Continue on a trail that takes you close to the Comici Hut, which has a particularly good reputation among mountain bikers and offers you excellent cuisine. The trails of the Trail Arena Val Gardena only lead downhill to Selva where an unforgettable day on your bike comes to an end.
