Ciampinoi in Val Gardena

From the summit of the Ciampinoi, located below the Sassolungo, you can look directly over the three Val Gardena villages of Santa Cristina, Ortisei and Selva. The mountain station of the cable car is the starting point of the world-famous Saslong, where two Ski World Cup races are held every year. In summer, the Ciampinoi is ideal for hikes, mountain bike tours and paragliding.

A freeride route for mountain bikers guarantees courageous free-riders plenty of fun and an unforgettable thrill. Food and drink are also on offer here: at the mountain station and in the surrounding huts, you'll be welcomed with South Tyrolean specialities that will ensure you enjoy your break.

Ciampinoi cable car

If you don't want to hike to Ciampinoi, you have two options for getting up there in winter:

  1. Only during the winter season: From Santa Cristina, first take the Salsong cable car to Hotel Sochers. Here you change to the Sochers-Ciampinoi chairlift.
  2. The journey from Selva is even easier: the Ciampinoi cable car takes you directly to the mountain station in summer and winter. The slopes at Campinoi are part of the Dolomiti Superski ski network, for which you only need a single ski pass.

Ciampinoi downhill run

The Ciampinoi is a paradise for winter sports enthusiasts. The downhill runs to Santa Cristina, Selva and Plan de Gralba have a long history dating back to the 1930s. Ciampinoi is part of the Val Gardena ski area, the Sellaronda ski circuit and the Dolomiti Superski ski network, which gives you access to a huge number of slopes.

As an experienced skier, you absolutely must treat yourself to the world-famous Ciampinoi 3 and the Saslong descent, black slopes that will make your heart beat faster and are part of the "Legendary 8" – the most beautiful slopes in Val Gardena. Ciampinoi 3 was the venue for the Giant Slalom World Championships in 1970. The Saslong is the slope used for the World Cup every year and ends near the centre of S. Cristina. From there, you can take the underground railway to the other side of Val Gardena and access the Col Raiser and Seceda ski areas directly.

Val Gardena is not only a popular ski resort where winter sports enthusiasts can enjoy slopes of all levels of difficulty. It is also the venue for two Ski World Cup races, where the best in their sport compete every year in the week before Christmas. The Saslong Downhill and the Super-G race are among the absolute highlights in Val Gardena's event calendar and attract top athletes and fans from all over the world.

Huts to visit

Regardless of whether you take the cable car up to Ciampinoi or walk to the summit – a day in the mountains makes you hungry. It's a good thing that numerous mountain huts in the Dolomites invite you to enjoy a cosy break with culinary delights.

The first opportunity to feast is right at the Ciampinoi mountain station. The Saslonch Hut, which hosts several concerts as part of the Rock the Dolomites festival, is located directly on the Saslong ski slope. Be sure to try the craft beer made there! The ambience in the Lisas'alm Hut right on the slope is rustic and romantic. The Vallongia Hut, also located on the slopes, has a small lake where you can fish for trout in summer. The Ciadinat Hut on the Saslong also welcomes you with delicious South Tyrolean specialities.

Ciampinoi in summer

While the Ciampinoi is a mecca for winter sports enthusiasts in winter, in summer the area is transformed into a marvellous hiking and mountain biking region that invites you to explore the uniquely beautiful natural surroundings. Or perhaps you fancy taking a paragliding flight and enjoying the Dolomites from the air?

Hiking

While the Ciampinoi is bustling in winter, it is often pleasantly quiet here in summer. The mountain station of the Ciampinoi cable car is an ideal starting point for wonderful mountain hikes, such as the Sassolungo tour. How about a tour from Ciampinoi to the Comici Hut, on to the Città dei Sassi and back again? Or a hike from Ciampinoi to Col Rodella?

Mountain biking

The Ciampinoi is also a popular destination for mountain bikers. You pass the mountain on the Sellaronda MTB tour in an anti-clockwise direction. There is also a popular freeride route here. The "Freeride Ciampinoi" route, which is around three kilometres long, is reserved for experienced mountain bikers and free-ride fans and is a particular highlight.

Paragliding

Ciampinoi is an ideal take-off base for paragliding in both summer and winter. Those with thermalling experience have the opportunity to take off from here in all directions and find connections to the entire Sella massif, the Sassolungo or via Col Rodella to the Val di Fassa. Take advantage of the excellent thermalling conditions for unforgettable tandem flights in the Dolomites.
